The assignment is to develop a 3-4 page essay that analyzes a speech. First, you must choose a Ted talk on a subject you find interesting that you feel like you have a handle on.It should be lengthy enough to analyze, though longer speeches might make your job harder.Something in the 8-10minute range may be a good target.

Then you will analyze the rhetorical situation andassess the effectiveness of the argument. The first step to doing this is to outline the speech.Identify the central idea and the supporting points.Next, analyze the speaker and theaudience to the best of your ability. What authority does the speaker bring to the role?Who is this speech for? After that, you can begin writing.

Your goal is to support your thesis, which expresses whether or not you believe the speech has successfully presented its central idea.

You want to make sure that you provide a sufficient summary of the speech, whether in an early body paragraph or throughout your analysis. It is important to fairly represent the speakers views. The body should focus on aspects of the speech that support your assessment. You want to cite specific moments and critique them. You may also include some outside information/views (from sources) to further support your points and/or to add some more interesting insights about the topic.

Be sure to use MLA carefully by citing your sources with in-text citations and providing a Works Cited page. Also, carefully proofread your paper for grammar errors and style.
