Program Title: Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study in Mental Health Counselling
Subject of Interest
Mental health counselling has been one of the most neglected aspects of our society but is a necessary entity of our overall well-being. World Health organization has also stated that there is no health without mental health. Hence, I have planned to choose mental health counselling as my graduation subject. This not only a personal health issue but also a social issue and this interests me more towards this. Besides, it will help me to change some orthodox mindsets.
Statement of Purpose for pursuing Graduate Study in Mental Health Counselling
A range of factors can potentially affect our emotional wellbeing and this impact can be either negative or positive. According to Barden, Conley and Young (2015), these factors can be genetic, physical, environmental, stress and even social climate can influence our emotional wellbeing. When these factors start affecting our mental health in a negative aspect they lead to problems and these problems can only be solved with mental health counselling. The most common type of these problems include stress, depression and anxiety.
According to the data presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), approximately, 1 in 5 adults in US suffers from mental health illness per year. The major point is most of the affected individuals either are unaware of their problem and out of those who are aware only a few seek help from counselling.
