The ability to control anger is an important skill to develop. There are many office related situations that can cause the most even-tempered person to become angry. A temper tantrum, however, is not professional behavior for an office. Removing the frustrations a person feels can be a healthy release for the body; internalizing anger can cause problems, including physical illness. Outlets for anger include tearing up paper, physical exercise, talking with a friend, writing a nasty note and destroying it, performing an activity that you enjoy, or deciding that the anger is not worth the bother. In the workplace, do not allow others to see your anger. If you are furious about something, go for a walk, get a drink of water, or close your door and rest for a few moments. Understanding and responding appropriately to your own anger and the anger of clients, supervisors, coworkers, and others will help you create a better working environment.
