The “perched beach” concept has been proposed as a possible method of moving the shoreline a significant distance seaward without requiring prohibitively large volumes of sand to raise the profile over the entire depth range of active motion.
(a) Describe qualitatively how you would designthe toe structure (location and height) to position the shoreline at some desired location.
(b) Describe the effect of a storm. Inparticular, would the shoreline return to the prestorm position?
(c) If any sand is “lost” landward of the toe because of a storm, how would you estimate this volume?
(d) For givenstorm characteristics, could you designthe toe such that the shoreline would not recede beyond a certain point? Discuss the procedure qualitatively.
