Introduction
Frazier et al. (2019) stated that in recent days, the individuals who have completed their bachelor’s degree tend to receive more than 65.6% higher salaries along with a lower chance of unemployment as compared to high school graduates (Valerio et al., 2016). The data presented thus, underscore the significance of studying factors that can have a severe impact on academic performance in colleges. The ACHA (American College Health Association) has released the NCHA (National College Health Assessment) on an annual basis.
The NCHA is a nationally representative survey where the students are monitored based on the factors that affect their academic performances. There are about 31 factors in the survey and for each of the factors; the student responded to their experiences for it. From this, it can be said whether the factors affecting the academic performances of the students such as receiving a lower grade or receiving an incomplete mark sheet (Boyraz et al., 2016). The analysis was done concerning 12 months of their graduates learning. Additionally, from 2011-2016, undergraduate students stated that they are highly exposed to stress and it negatively regulates their academic performances. This is in association with other health-based factors such as poor mental health and sleep disorders. On the other hand, heterosexual students have more chances of stress as compared to lesbian, gay or bisexual students.
Research Question
The research question for the study is
Does stress affect academic performance in university students?
Stress is a crucial factor that impedes academic performances among university students (Shah et al., 2017). The research question aims to evaluate the accuracy of the perceptions, thereby, identifying the psychosocial, as well as the demographic factors that are distinct among the students highlighting the impact of stress on their academic performances (Alsaggaf et al., 2016). Examining the research question thoroughly, it can generate the relationship between the stress factors and the GPA (grade point average). Besides this, the research question is developed to identify the crucial factors that are definite and specific among the university students who have reported to encounter neither stress nor impact of stress on the academic performances.
Hypothesis
The Hypotheses of the research study are as follows:
Hypothesis 1:
H1: There is a significant relationship between the stress factors and the academic performances among the university students
H0: There is no significant interrelation between the stress factors and the academic performances among the university students
Hypothesis 2:
H1: There are factors that can lead to ‘no stress’ among the students of the university and thus,...
