Th e FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a computerized database of criminal justice information, including data on criminal histories, fugitives, stolen property, and missing persons. Th e NCIC is available to law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies 24 hours a day. Inevitably, such large systems contain some inaccuracies, and various studies have indicated that perhaps less than half the records in this database are complete, accurate, and unambiguous. Do you approve of the NCIC or object to it? Would you change your mind if the system had no inaccuracies? Is there a level of inaccuracy you would fi nd acceptable to realize the benefi ts such a system provides?
