Part I
Ans1. With reference to the video we can understand that each team member has special quality and skill in order to keep the car on track and contribute in winning the race. This kind of team where each team member compliments each other and brings new skills on the table is called the cross-fun
ctional team.
Applying the Tuckman's Stages of Team Development, we can say that this team specifically is in Performing Stage. This is because the team is highly cohesive and already knows about the skills, strengths and weakness of the other member in the team. There is openess and trust that each team member knows what to do and does it with utmost dedication. The team is high on achievement and builds strong relationship
Ans2. Yes indeed, the team is highly effective and performing to the best of their ability. Primarily the three elements because of which the team is effective can be explained below
· Trust - Team members know about the strength and weakness of the other member of teams. They trust one another and know that each one would contribute their best to achieve the desired goal
· Accountability - Each team member knows about their role and actions that is required. In this high-pressuring time bound job, they know even a fraction of second makes all the difference, hence each one does their part with 100 percent energy
· Commitment and Result-oriented - Each team member is aware of line of actions and decisions. All of them are focuses on achieving the results
Ans3. Members of the different sub-teams are motivated to help each other thorough excellent communication, clarity of their roles and mutual understanding how crucial is the role of each member to achieve the ultimate objective.
Part II
Ans1. I was part of team where I had to start an initiative to create awareness about women empowerment in business today. We are team of 7 people and it was very effective since each team member trusted the other person to perform their share of responsibility to the best of their ability
Ans2. On the contrary, I was part of team an underperforming team as well. I had to bring-up a start-up product in the market. We were team of 4 people and failed miserably since each member wasn’t open and fair leading to many conflicts among the team members and lack of trust.
Ans3. Yes, I agree that all three element of team - Trust, Accountability, Commitment and Result focused are required the team to be effective. Yet, if I had to remove on element then it would be commitment since accountability of the task and member who are focused towards the result will definitely contribute their action with commitment
Ans4. Factors like lack of trust, conflicts and lack of sense of responsibility contribute to process loss in the groups that I have been part of till now.
Ans5. If I were staffing a team, I would look for right attitude in the team member along with required skills. Essentially because it is the right attitude for a team to be successful and synergetic.
