Tertiary industries include all non-goods production activities and provide services to goods producers, the general community, and individuals. Subdivided into consumer services and producer services, the tertiary sector is broad and employs most workers in advanced economies. The location of customers is an important consideration for both consumer and producer services. Front-office and backoffice tasks are often spatially distant. The growing world trade in services, made possible by plummeting costs of information transmission, has altered international economic relations and encouraged cultural and functional integration.
