Teach children the power of being an effective decision maker. Start with giving children small choices, and involve them in solving real, gen uine problems: Offer many different choices to children each day. Anticipate situations in which choices could be offered, and plan what those choices will b e. For instance, if you know you will be reading a story to the group, consider giving children a choice about where to sit, whether they would like to follow up the story by writing a poem or drawing a picture, or what character they would like to portray in a reenactment of the tale.
