You are required to write a reflective report covering one or some topics discussed in the first three weeks (The nature of organisations, the nature of management in today’s business environment, Motivation, Power and politics, Communication in Business, Conflict and negotiation).



As you write, be sure to reflect on why the topic (s) is important and relevant to you. You can reflect on your present or past experience as a manager/team leader or as a worker to enhance your reflection. However, do not refertoo muchto ‘I’ in that your reflection also needs to be supported by theories or ideas from relevant academic journal articles.


As for the conclusion, summarise your overall learning by combining your personal experience, your readings and be sure to articulate what you have really learnt and how you will use the learning in future.



Since this is a reflective report, you do not need to include an Executive Summary.


Simply, provide a short introduction (75 words); followed by discussions on the importance and relevancy of the topic you have chosen, along with theories, personal experience (600 words i.e. 3 to 4 paragraphs); and a conclusion (75-100 words).

Management is a broad field that covers many aspects when it comes to running a company. While I learnt a lot from the variou
s concepts taught throughout these first weeks, I was particularly interested and deeply influenced by the concepts included in change and change management in a company.
This has been particularly important for me because I noticed how greatly change effects a workplace and how crucial it is to make transitions in change, a smooth process. Change is a sensitive matter that is naturally accompanied with resistance. I believe mastering the art of change management is central to becoming a successful manager and leader since managing change in a highly dynamic environment like today’s is largely dependent on the adequacy, talent and influence of a good manager.
Importance and Relevance
Change management is a central part of business management since it involves managing the most vulnerable aspect of business and that is change. Human beings are naturally resistant to change. They tend to feel secure in the routine and change makes them feel threatened in some way or another. Organisational change is basically the transformation of a business from one point in time to another (Barnett & Carroll, 1995). Organisational change is usually engineered for positive effect on an organization. However, if it is not managed properly, it can lead to negative outcomes as well.
It is important here to distinguish between organizational development and organizational transformation.
