ENTREPRENEURIAL Journey
Reflective Assignment
Abstract
Business operations can be explained as complex set of operations that consistently map the difference between the need and reality for customers. In this fast-growing market, if any business wants to survive the test of time or even thrive in the business, then it is imperative to evolve and deliver value for their customers. In the golden words of M. Wheatley, "Without Reflection, we go blindly on our way creating more unintended consequences and failing to achieve anything useful". By the virtue of this assignment, I have applied important frameworks like Korthagen's ALACT Model, McGill's Reflective Practice as well as Brockbank to reflect on my journey of entrepreneurial development. An entrepreneur can be defined as someone who can bring innovation or is perhaps someone who promote to develop a growth mindset that can help to think beyond traditions that can help in disrupting old ways of thinking. We live in a world where everyone is chasing their goals yet finds himself or herself devoid of happiness, frustrated, burned-out, and often wait for the weekend to get back to work. If you are a goal-oriented person, then there is no weekend or holiday for you since work is something you love to do! Just think about it, what does it take to make your work effortless or something you would love to do? Or what does it take to achieve the impossible? Or what does it take to accomplish the paradigm shift that is never seen before? Literally, taking inspiration from up-start entrepreneurs, people like Larry Page, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos who have created world-changing impossible business in near-record time. These are the individuals who are going after grand global challenges like poverty, water scarcity, etc. and tackling many challenges which few years before were only taken up by the government and big cooperation. As expressed by researched Farsi (2012) clarifies that business people are the centre fuel of development and monetary turn of events. Business visionaries are the spine who are liable for financial improvement particularly in their nation of origin. There is sure pioneering trademark that assumes an indispensable part in the general accomplishment of the business.
The only rationale why I really resonated with this course, because it provides a maturity in students to develop propensity to absorb failure and bounce back as well as the typical narrative of how success is a journey and not a destination. When we look at Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk or Priyanka Chopra for that matter, the first thing that clicks in the mind is their crowing success! The series of achievements and work to their name is magnanimous. Whether it is musician, an athlete, or a business executive one thing is for sure that they have really worked hard and then they got their lucky break and bam now they are at the zenith of success. By the virtue of this assignment, I am presenting to you my learnings such that it demystifies how to become entrepreneurs and what it takes to build a successful business. What this course helped me to comprehend is that if people aspire to be successful then it is imperative that they go to a deeper level rather than just concentrating on the work ethics, ambitions, or IQ scores of already successful entrepreneurs and businessmen Furthermore, one has to look at the things that we cannot always see or things that are not visible at the surface.
Reflection on my Entrepreneurial Development Journey
I remember finding out about entrepreneurial development, and I thought it was just the greatest thing! We all have opportunities to improve ourselves to become better version of ourselves! However, I ran into trouble that almost everyone going through the same journey runs into, which is basically to do multiple things at once. Essentially trying to improve at everything! For instance, starting tomorrow you are going to wake up early, mediate for an hour, exercise for an hour, go to work and as soon as that is done, learn how to play guitar after work since you always wanted to play it and once you are done with that you are going to work on your different business ideas. Wow! That sounds so good because when you make such plan I am sure you are excited about it. However, in reality there are two major outcomes of this dream plan of yours
· First and most likely scenario, it is possible you won’t be able to actually do all the things you planned. I am sure you may have a great willpower. Willpower is like a battery my friend, it gets drained by the end of the day! So, when you begin your morning trying to be the Dalai Lama it might be possible that you wont be sitting to work on your business ideas by end of the day. This is because the battery of willpower is empty by then!
· Second option, which is highly unlikely, let’s talk about a hypothetical situation where you somehow manage and continuously get through all those things. Well, in this unlikely situation the best outcome is that you still end up being average at everything.
We all are over stimulated in this digital world! We get notification on our phone all the time popping out from 10 different applications. In the morning we roll out of our bed and first thing we do is check our emails, at least that’s true for me and my family. Why I particularly loved this course is because, it’s all about productivity! It speaks to enthusiast’s knowledge workers, entrepreneurs, people who basically want to get more out of every single minute of their day. Also, another necessary trait to put into words how can one master doing that One Thing. My intent of providing this performance reviews through this assignment is because I can draw parallels between the concepts and have all the required insights as well as tool to build my distraction free productive habit to achieve your goals.
As per to the well-known researcher and academicians Lischeron and Cunningham, they have broadly categorised six crucial element that largely explains the core behaviour and personality traits of entrepreneurs. These six elements actually act as a framework that can broadly explain the nature and mindset of entrepreneur like persistence, creativity, vigour, self-esteem as well as high appetite for risk.
Core Competency 1 - Persistence
It is all about falling In Love with your idea and staying in Love over the long run and that’s really an intriguing concept! There are many surveys that exhibit that we look down upon the individuals who put in the effort but we don’t actually believe it can compete with natural talent. We often discount our own abilities while going up against people who might have longer tenure than us or appear more naturally gifted. However, entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Theil and many more have proved that consistent efforts and believe in the idea can actually help in building an innovative business. After reading their entrepreneurial journey and comprehending their challenges as well as how they tackle them I want to share a simple formula that can throw light on what is a skill and how can build it to accomplish our goals.
Talent * Efforts = Skill
Skill * Effort = Achievement
Indeed, our life is diabolic of our thoughts but our life is also about choices we make and actions we take. Great German philosopher, Nietzsche once said his formula for greatness in a human being is “Amor Fati”. What it essentially means is one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity to not merely bear what is necessary still less conceal it but to love it in. It is an attitude, which is more in line with an ancient stoic mindset that stays unaffected by the events. They are cheerful in the face of any event whether it is positive or negative.
Core Competency 2 – Vigour derived from Flow
Secondly, what I have discovered that it doesn’t matter which domain you look, it can be an athlete, business tycoons, technologist, or artist. Every domain you find the ultimate performance has the same signature; state of consciousness known to the researcher as flow. Essentially, “Flow” is an optimal state of mind between boredom and anxiety where one performs one’s best as well as one feel satisfied with its efforts. At its core, entrepreneurship is the experience of being so engaged in the task that one loses track of time. If we look back, I am sure you must have experienced this state of mind when you have engaged activity that interests you therefore, you must be aware of the high that I am talking about or comprehend the satisfaction derived from this state of mind! Perhaps, a state where you are focused yet very calm and whatever it is, you are doing, you are doing it really well! You tap into higher faculties of mind that enable you to open the creative side to your personality. Sure, the situation might be challenging for you but it overwhelms you to an extent that you lose track of your goal. As a result, you are able to come up with solutions to solve problems and continue doing your best in real-time. In all this, you are enjoying what you are...
