TaskThis task is designed so that you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the factors that affect blood pressure and cardiac output, in particular due to exercise. To demonstrate this you will need to answer a series of questions based on the data provided to you. This data was recorded from a previous year’s cohort and will be provided to you in the weeks where the cardiac topic is studied. In the lab classes you will undertake practical 3, activity 4, the effect of exercise on BP, and this will allow you to clarify your understandings and ask questions before final submission of the assignment. You will collect your own data, however it is expected that you will only include the provided data in your assignments. You should refer to the provided data table when answering the posed questions. Make sure you number any summary tables (and graphs if you use them) and include appropriate captions and headings so that you can refer to them effectively in your answers. For this task answer the following questions:Q 1. Define blood pressure. In your answer you should discuss systolic and diastolic blood pressures, pulse pressure and mean arterial pressure. (4 marks)Q 2. Provide a table of the class average percentage changes for each of the pressures from the data provided due to exercise. What do these indicate about the effect of exercise on these blood pressures? (4 marks)Q 3. How does the body regulate blood pressure while resting (i.e. not exercising)? Include in your answer the major short term and long term mechanisms for blood pressure control. (10 marks)Q 4. With reference to the mechanisms for blood pressure control described in question 3; discuss the effects of exercise on blood pressure and how the body regulates blood pressure during exercise. Include in your answer discussion of any unusual results (with reference to the provided data). (10 marks)
