Introduction
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is considered as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her potential and can cope up with the normal stress of life and can work productively and fruitfully, and can contribute to their community. Mental illness has become a very common term in the life of the people as the increasing stress and anxiety in their personal as well as the professional life deteriorates the mental health of an individual and leads them towards the mental illness. The positive mental health of an individual is very important concerning their health as well as the life.
To make the individual aware of the mental health conditions and support those to achieve stable and positive mental health several mental health services are formulated. The services presented by these mental health service centers helps an individual in gaining their confidence and live a healthy life. The mental health service providers ensure that the support is extended to the one in need and make a person overcome the fear and challenges he is facing mentally. It is very important that mental health services are accessible by the customers.
Mental Health Services in my Area
In my local area also there are several mental health services that are established to support the people who are suffering from deteriorating mental health. Some of the prime mental health services in my area include-
Medicare-Subsidized Services
In Australia, it is mandatory that the mental health services provided by the general practitioners, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers as well need to be subsidized through Medicare (Jennifer Martin, 2015).
General Practitioners (GP)
In my area, mental health services are provided by general practitioners. They are one of the prime service providers for the treatment of mental health. The general practitioners help in overcoming and are involved in the management of several psychological problems including anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbance. The general practitioners though get to address several problems related to the mental health of the individuals in the meanwhile the problems related to the psychology of the patients are the ones that are generally the most consistent ones. The GP is considered very prominent in cases where the patients have mild and acute problems related to mental health (Fletcher, 2019).
Psychiatrists
Another mental health service provided in my area is through psychiatrists. They are the one who analyzes the mental health and condition of a patient first and then portrays what would be the suitable way for them to overcome these challenges. As considered the record of the psychiatrists it is acknowledged that they provide the highest number of services per patient of all mental-health related services. Psychiatrists’ area of treatment and providing support to mentally disturbed persons is not limited to any specific genre. Any of the people or the patients that are going through any kind of mental trauma generally visit them in order to get complete knowledge about their condition as well as the root cause of the problem. The psychiatrist helps the people in shedding the challenges they are facing mentally (Frith, 2017).
Social Workers
Social workers also work as a mental health services unit that could be considered very influential for the people suffering from poor mental health conditions. Social workers play an important role in identifying the people who are suffering from bad mental conditions and help them in gaining good health by opting for different methods and solutions that could be beneficial for them. Along with these the social workers also play an important role in referring such people to mental health services or the hospitals where they could get much better service and treatment.
Allied Health Professionals
Under the better access initiative, Medicare rebates are available for up to ten individuals and ten groups of allied health services per year to the patients who are suffering from any kind of mental disorder and are referred by GP, psychiatrists, or the pediatrician. These basically help the patients in getting quality service (Looi, Allison & Bastiampillai, 2020).
Mental Health Service Network
The mental health service network generally aims and is admitted to provide patients with the continuity of care and support their recovery. The service networks are considered as a prominent organizational solution to strengthen and boost the different mental health services to improve the outcomes for the patients with different needs. As in many of the cases, it is observed that the mental health care services are serving the community and helping them to deal with several problems but with the passing time, it is realized that there is a downfall in the assistance provided by the community cares which harms the patients at wider extent. To deal with such prevailing problems the service networks have been promoted that would prominently help in improving coordination across different services.
The service networks are considered as the long-term agreements between the organization and services with the potential aim of providing patients with a coordinated range of interventions. The service network is considered very important in the context of the mental health service (Isobel, Wilson, Gill, Schelling & Howe, 2021).
