Task Overview:
Each assessment in this unit represents a step in the process of completing an academic essay, so this first assessment covers Step 1, reflecting on what you know about the topic and what aspect of the task you will focus on.
This assessment has two (2) separate learning reflection submissions. These reflections will help you consider what you know already about sustainability, choose a scenario to write about and begin to develop your ideas for your Persuasive Essay (Assessment 4).

You can write in “first person” (I, me, my) for these learning reflections as this is a reflection on your own thoughts and views. You must however use full sentences, correct paragraphing, grammar and punctuation.

Task details:
Learning Reflection 1 (5%): Thinking about the theme of sustainability and your essay scenario
In approximately 250 words
1.    What is your understanding of the word sustainability?
2.    What is the sustainability scenario you have chosen for your essay and what aspects interest you about this topic?
NB: Your answers do not need to be researched and referenced as they should simply be based on your understanding from what you have learned so far in the unit.
Learning Reflection 2 (10%): Thinking about how your essay scenario relates to the three pillars of sustainability (social/economic/environmental):
By now you should have already started thinking about the essay scenario you will write about. Based on the scenario you have chosen from one of the four below, respond to the questions that follow, in approximately 250 words:
•    Developing the NT food bowl
•    Accommodating and ensuring the well-being of refugee populations
•    Securing a sustainable future for electricity
•    Ensuring tourism is sustainable

1.    For your chosen scenario, what are the different sustainability issues that you think need to be considered under each of the 3 pillars (environmental, social, economic)?

2.    Given the issues you have identified, do you think any of the three pillars should be prioritised to help achieve sustainable solutions? Why or why not?
