Task One: Inclusion plan
1. In consultation with your Workplace Supervisor select one (1) child with a barrier to learning. Gain permission to observe the child from the parent.
The barrier or need may be due to:
• language and communication issues
• cognitive differences
• physical challenge
• sensory impairments
• social and emotional needs
• health issue
• family circumstances and need
• culturally and linguistically diverse background, including children from a refugee or humanitarian intervention background
• Indigenous children
• giftedness or having special talents
This child needs to be a different child from the child chosen for:
Program Cluster On the Job Assessment 1 (LA017453) but can be a child included in the focus group chosen for:
- Program Cluster On the Job Assessment Three (LA017447)and Assessment Four (LA017448)
Task Two:
2. Gather and document information on the child from a variety of sources, the child, family, educators, and where relevant other professionals involved with the child, as well as through formal observation. Please note that you must gain family permission prior to consulting with others regarding the child.
• At least 3 observations (5 marks each) with analysis, need to be completed and submitted with the Inclusion Plan. Use observation records of your choice to gather information about all areas of development, learning styles, play preferences, emerging skills, interests and relationships. (total 15 marks)
• Secondary sources of information- information from the child, family, staff and other professionals needs to be included in your submission and summarised on the Inclusion Plan (5 marks)
Task Three:
3. Complete a Learning and Development Summary which identifies the child’s:
• Interests
• Strengths
• Emerging skills
• Relationships
The Learning and Development Summary must be based on the information gathered through the observations and information gathered from child, family, staff and professionals working with the child. The summary needs to show progress the child is making towards the Outcomes of the learning framework. (15 marks)
Where appropriate, provide reference to relevant theorists or theoretical approaches which help explain the developmental behaviours you included in your summary. (5 marks)
Task Four:
4. Develop a plan in consultation with all those involved in the care of the child, including the child, family, staff and professionals. The plan needs to reflect the service philosophy and policies that relate to inclusion, equity and diversity. Implement monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan.
The Inclusion Plan will include:
a. A description of the identified barrier to learning, possible causes symptoms and characteristics including identification and assessment procedures and any professionals/specialists that are involved. (5 marks)
b. A review of the environment and suggestions for adaptations to make to the environment and routines to ensure inclusion of the child (5 marks)
c. The identified needs of the family and suggestions as to how to best support the family and develop a positive and collaborative relationship with them.(5 marks)
d. In consultation with child, family, staff and other professionals develop one (1) long term goal and two (2) short term objectives relating to the child’s interests, strengths, emerging skills and relationships in working towards the Learning Framework Outcomes. Provide documentation of the consultation that you had with child, family, staff and /or other professionals. Ensure appropriate permission has been sought for inclusion of these. (10 marks)
e. Develop at least three (3) strategies and at least three (3) planning suggestions to support the child in working towards the identified objectives. Strategies will include the considerations, modifications and information that will be needed for successful inclusion to occur. (15 marks)
f. Describe how you will communicate with and provide support to others to implement the strategies (3 marks)
g. List strategies you will implement to monitor the effectiveness of the plan (2 marks)
h. Adaptations and modifications made to the plan ( 3 marks)
i. Periodic evaluation on the effectiveness of the plan, suggestions of follow up experiences/strategies and how you share information about progress with family and colleagues. (12marks)
