Task: (from theBedford Book of Genres, "Analyzing the Work of Others") Is there a film you watched recently that was particularly interesting or memorable? Or perhaps a new album that has come out by your favorite artist? Maybe you are mesmerized by a particular ad? Choose something that captivates you and read/watch/listen to it several times, and very closely. What do you notice about the work upon close examination? Take notes about what the composer's central point is and how they achieve that, perhaps breaking the piece into its several parts. Then, draft a critical analysis (about 700-1000 words) in which you take a clear stance about the work you are evaluating. Be sure to include specific evidence from the original work.
