Task: Discuss the benefits of social models of health for understanding the root causes of current population health issues. Structure: 1. Describe the changes in the nature of the most prevalent health issues (morbidity and mortality) in developed countries over the past 150 years AND compare this will the health issues that are currently most prevalent in developing countries. (20 pts) 2. Briefly discuss why the biomedical model is not sufficient for understanding the root causes of the high rate of HIV/AIDS mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa. (20 pts) 3. Choose one of the current top 5 causes of death in NZ and discuss the effectiveness of at least TWO of the social models outlined in class to explain the root causes of the health issue that you have chosen. (50 pts)
