Task: Complete a Behaviour Plan for a Child
1.    In consultation with staff where you are undertaking your work placement, select one (1) child with a behaviour that is causing concern.   Gain parental permission to observe the child. Use the Group Permission to Observe form that is within this assessment task.
This child needs to be a different child from the child chosen for:

•    Program Cluster On the Job Assessment Two (LA017446)
but can be a child included in the focus group chosen for:
•    Program Cluster On the Job Assessment Three and Four (LA017447) and (LA017448)

2.    Record and interpret observations of the child on at least three (3) occasions to identify the behaviour and possible factors causing the behaviour, triggers and consequences which are maintaining the behaviour.  You may use any type of appropriate observation record to document your observations. (total 15 marks for the three observations with interpretations)

3.    Now gather and record information from secondary sources i.e. from all those involved in caring for the child, include where appropriate the child, staff and family (5 marks).
4.    Evaluate the environment and curriculum for possible influences on behaviour.   Is the environment impacting on or maintaining the behaviour causing concern? (10 marks)

Now use all the information gathered from the previous activities (1-4) to identify:

•    The inappropriate behaviour(s) and why this behaviour is a concern (5 marks)
•    The factors that may be causing the behaviour- triggers and/or consequences which are maintaining the behaviour. (5 marks)
•    Identify the impact the behaviour has on the child and on other children. (5 marks)

5.    Record a summary of all the information gathered on the Behaviour plan:
•    Child’s name and age and date

•    Describe the behaviour causing concern.  You can include links to your observations and information gathered.
•    Summarise the information gathered about the child and the behaviour. Include reference to observations and information from secondary sources and from evaluating the environment.
•    Record the impact the behaviour has on child, other children, family.
Include all observations and information gathered with your Behaviour Plan when submitting this assessment.

6.    Read through the service philosophy and behaviour guidance policy and then do some research either online or read texts or your learner resource to refresh your knowledge of appropriate behaviour guidance strategies.  Use this knowledge to address the identified behaviour causing concern.

7.    Organise a meeting to discuss the information gathered with your Work place supervisor and where possible the family.  Take all the information that you have gathered to this meeting.  It may be valuable to have the service philosophy and behaviour guidance policy with you to share with the family at the meeting.
Analyse the child’s behaviour with staff, family and where appropriate the child.  Discuss the behaviour and why it is causing concern, factors that you have identified as possible triggers or consequences of the behaviour and the impact it has on the child and other children.

Identify alternative behaviours that everyone concerned would like the child to achieve and record these on the Behaviour plan. (5 marks)
In collaboration with staff, child, family members and others who may be caring for the child:
