Introduction
Health related challenges are one of the major concerns that is faced globally. This challenge is faced by both developed and developing nations irrespective of their health infrastructure. In developed countries, such as Australia, there is challenges of health among citizens, particularly among the aboriginal people. Therefore, in order to address the issues of health challenges it is important to carry out immunization to protect the citizens against disease. In this report a detailed discussion is done with respect to the importance of immunization in Australia, along with different promotional programs that are arranged with respect to the immunization process. These promotional programmes effectiveness will be analysed by the application of principles of primary health care and promotion.
Immunization and its Priority in Australia
Immunization is a process through which an individual person’s immune system gets strengthened in order to avoid any kind of diseases. As discussed by Marchant et al. (2017) that immunisation is a process where the capacity of body to produce the immune system is either increased naturally or through the process of vaccination. These kinds of approaches develop immunity or resistance regarding specific illness. During these testing time of disease and viruses, especially Covid-19 virus, which had created a pandemic situation all around the world. As discussed by Archer et al. (2017) that modern outbreak of most infectious diseases such as flu, chicken pox, whooping cough, measles, Zika, Ebola, HIV and Covid-19, which is a new disease, and still researchers are trying to find out the nature of the virus and its vaccination, in order to build the immune system against the harmful effects of the virus. In Australia, the majority of population try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, however, the problem arises among the Aboriginal community members because they are more vulnerable to disease, because of their background and the way they lead their life. Therefore, in order to address the issues related with the increasing disease and the onset of sudden pandemic situation such as Covid-19, Australian government had initiated and prioritised the vaccination or immunisation drive for their citizens, irrespective of the background or origin.
Immunisation is one of the most successful and cost effective health intervention ever initiated by Australian government. Immunisation as the public health issue was previously the responsibility handled by the state and territories in line with the federal system of Australia. With the increase in demand of the immunisation along with the increased availability in the latter portion of the twentieth century, there occurred a range of disparities in the funding for the funding for and the access to the vaccines have appeared among the states and territories. Thomas et al. (2018) have discussed that the national survey conducted in Australia suggest that only about 53 percent of the Australian children were immunised adequately. This had led to the further initiation of the immunisation program in Australia.
