Description


The purpose of this task is to select and research a particular topic that will inform the creation of the digital resources in the following assessment task. The presentation format provides an opportunity to communicate the key concepts from your chosen topic and how these ideas inform the selection and design of digital resources and learning design.



Choose a particular topic that you want to pursue for the rest of the subject. You will have suggested a topic at the conclusion of Task 1. However, you may change this topic upon approval of a head tutor (please email to discuss), or based on your feedback from Task 1. Possible topics could include:




  • Cognitive load theory and how these concepts may shape the design of a digital resource.

  • Students’ digital literacy (skills and knowledge) and how this will influence the design of a resource to meet the needs of students.

  • Scaffolding, exploring how to scaffold concepts and students’ learning within the design of a digital resource.

  • Organisational structure or educational context (discussing the physical, social or cultural features of a learning environment) and how these may determine or shape the selection and design of digital resources.



Explore your topic and identify the key concepts. Create a presentation in a format of your choice (see the options below) that communicates what you understand about the topic. This will include definitions, key/competing ideas, importance of the topic in education and relevance of your topic to your educational setting, applications/examples of the concepts in education and digital resource design, research findings etc.



Your presentation could be:


• A written report/essay incorporating images/screenshots as desired (up to 1800 words)


• A slideshow presentation (using PowerPoint, Prezi, video or other presentation tool) of up to 20 slides (including commentary using notes or audio)


• A website of equivalent length



Feel free to be as creative as you like using different media to communicate your message. You can include text, images, links, audio etc. to develop your presentation. Consider this an opportunity to develop some new skills, for example using a tool or technique you're not already familiar with but want a reason to learn.

Introduction
It the era of digital advancement it has become an imperative for school education policymakers to implement policies that promote digital literacy among students at different levels. Students’ awareness of the significance of digital literacy should be considered the first step towards development of an effective design of resource that can eventually meet the academic and social needs of students. In this context, it has to be argued that educators should contribute to the process of developing digital literacy among students in order to enhance students’ knowledge performance by helping them in practicing good skills that are essential for dealing with appropriate and effective digital tools. The primary objective of this report will be to emphasize how important it is for educators and education policymakers to enrich the digital literacy among students so that an effective design of digital resources can be implemented, helping educators, in the era of technological development, to meet the various socio-academic needs of students at different levels.
The Importance of Developing Digital Literacy among Students
It is very much important for educators to make students aware of the importance of digital literacy. In this respect, educators must encourage students to develop their digital sources utilization skills and thereby to enhance their digital literacy in order to obtain certain specific lifelong knowledge and skills in the learning environment (Saubari & Baharuddin, 2016). It is noteworthy that, the society is rapidly changing and evolving into a more significant digital era where individuals are compelled to indulge more in the use of virtual communication and online interactions. Amid such technological and social developments it becomes necessary for future citizens (the students) to learn the online etiquette, norms and conventions, and it is also essential for students to become more aware of online security measures that could protect their privacy. It is while considering the importance of developing skills of online communication and virtual interactions that educators must promote digital literacy among students. Besides, educators and education policymakers should formulate and implement strategies for promoting digital literacy among students owing to the fact that such form of literacy will enhance technological access skills among students (Lynch, 2017).
Furthermore, the importance of digital literacy among students also lies in the fact that such literacy will help students in understanding the importance of those authorship and representation rules that guide the interactive communication processes and knowledge dispersion processes conducted online digitally. Students must also strive for obtaining deeper knowledge to enhance their digital literacy owing to the fact that digital literacy will increase their online social responsibility both in the short- and long-run (Lynch, 2017).
