You need to acquire an image of a disk on a computer that can’t be removed from the
scene, and you discover that it’s a Linux computer. What are your options for acquiring
the image? Write a brief instruction specifying the hardware and software you would use.
Linux, one of the most used operating system by developers around the world, apart from the
various tools and features it provides the several features of the forensic tool that can be applied
for data acquisition purposes. One of the important aspect of the Linux is that it can access a
drive that is not mounted. Physical access of the drive might be needed in order to backup or
rescue the data on removable media such as USB drive or any other storage media. As in this
case the OS is Linux from which data acquisition is needed to be done, we need to use the Linux
based technique or tool to acquire the data. The following hardware and software we are going to
use for data acquisition:
1. Linux live CD (preferably forensic live CD)
2. SATA drive (larger than size of the entire HDD like 512GB or more for entire HDD copy)
3. BIOS knowhow in order to make sure the system boot from the CD
