Life of Pi – Film Analysis
A writer who lives in Canada pays a visit to Piscine Molitor Patel at the start of the narrative. Mamaji, a close family member who was regarded as an uncle and the origin of Pi's full name, sent the writer. The author asks Pi to tell him his tale, one that wil
l persuade him to believe in God. This is how the film starts rolling and goes through the life of Piscine Molitor Patel, also known as Pi in this film.
Aesthetic
The film undoubtedly is one of the most aesthetically pleasing shots. The context of the film being spiritual has lot of scenes where we are often lost in the beauty of the shot. Colours and camera angles play a crucial role in determining the aesthetics of a film and this film certainly has both of the requirements checked.
The film has a sturdy blue colour pallet throughout its course. This colour when looked closely is largely used to symbolize faith and wisdom predominantly but is not only subject to those and also signifies confidence and stability in a lot of areas. One main area where the film does justice to the colour blue comes at the very beginning of the film when Pi visits a Church. Pi, being a Hindu discovers Christianity. But unlike the regular mass, Pi is not afraid to learn more about a new religion and is seen to embrace the newly found religion. This emotion is conveyed with open blue doors in the film.

The dark clouds up on top and the deep blue colour in this scene signifies Pi’s courage and his endurance to face anything that comes next to him in his life. A lot of blue shades in different colour tones represent his never giving up nature and his willingness to strive with hope.
Not only blue, the film uses a pale yellow to bright red transition often. Yellow often is used to represent different moods, warmth and safety. Yellow is depicted to say that there’s something promising at the end of this scene and that we should be ready for it. In the wide-open sea, the bright yellow mornings bring a new opportunity to find resources to thrive and ultimately reach land. Similar sensations of warmth and comfort that the light delivers in the shape of oranges and yellows while Pi is stranded are represented by the vivid yellows and greens that are apparent in a scene with Pi's mother. When discussing his interest in Islam and the inner tranquilly it offers, Pi exhibits similar feelings. This link to Pi's religious beliefs demonstrates how important his "inner serenity" was while he was surrounded by chaos. Even in the most trying circumstances, he maintained his composure. But despite the boat having a pale-yellow shade to it, the interior of the boat is a vibrant red to symbolise the ongoing danger. Pi was...
