Grant Proposal on Public safety of the City of Summerville
Hypothesis
Reducing by 20 percent the prevalence of sick leave among police officers due to high incidences of cardiovascular and musculo-skeletal diseases lowers the risk of public safety.
Thesis
Prevalence of ill health among police officers led to deterioration of safety within different public places. Presence of complicated heart diseases hindered officers in Summerville from conducting efficiently their duty of protecting and guarding the public. This is evident by the fact that more officers within Summerville police department asked for sick leave to seek for medical attention. Absence of police officers within the public places heightened levels of insecurity, which put the safety of citizens in jeopardy. Increased cardiovascular and musculo-skeletal diseases among officers were caused largely by lack of exercise and unstable physical fitness. Through a project on public safety, University lecturers and other members of Summerville aimed at developing a fitness Centre within the region that would help reverse this situation.
