Take a hike or a walk in your neighborhood, and examine some of the plants, insects, birds, and other organisms that you come across. For each organism, note one or two traits that make it adapted to its environment. Did you notice any adaptations that keep organisms from being eaten by potential predators? What types of adaptations were these—ones that allowed them to flee or ones that allow them to remain camouflaged? Did you notice any adaptations related to finding mates? What about adaptations related to raising offspring?
