T1 2021: ICT201 Computer Organisation and Architecture Assessment 2 Assessment type: Report (2,000 words) – individual assignment Purpose: This assessment will allow students to demonstrate that they can identify and understand synchronisation and deadlocks. This assessment contributes to Learning Outcomes b and c. Value: 30% (Report 20%; Presentation 10%) Due Date: Report Submission via Moodle (Week 9 Sunday 23:59); Presentation (Week 10 – 11) Submission: Upload the completed report via Moodle. Assessment Topic: Analysis of an Operating System scenario, Computer Organisation and Architecture Report Task Details: The report will require analysis of an operating system scenario and a report on the systems and logical issues involved, as well as options for resolving the problem and subsequent implications. Referencing: Please remember that all sources used in assessment tasks must be suitablyreferenced. Harvard referencing is the required method. A Referencing Guide, “Harvard Referencing”, and a Referencing Tutorial can be found on the right-hand menu strip in Moodle on all subject pages. Assignment Details: Assess the significance of locality and its applicability across a broad range of memory hierarchies. Write a report and expand on the justifications given in chapter one and chapter eight of the book (Stallings, W. (2017). Operating System: internals and design principles. 9 th ed. Essex: Pearson Education Limited.) for why the locality principle is valid. You should use internet resources and other books as well. Your report should be clearly structured. Prepare a brief presentation of your report, and present it to the rest of the class. You must provide references and cite the resources that you consulted for this assignment. Harvard referencing is the required method.

Operating Systems: The Problems of Performance and Reliability
INTRODUCTION
It is a very difficult task to prepare the survey paper over the operating system. A simple catalogue which has the multiple currently existing operating system, and it is the effort for the design of the operating system would be inadequate. The subject is still presented in the 2 disorganized and immatu
re manner. There are many fronting rates of the development and most of the authors have different opinions on it but still it is not presented in the well analytical manner. The classification and survey are still feasible over the operating system.
There is no general agreement over the meaning of the operating system term. In fact, the Baron is discussing the assemblers like what is the operating system. There are many other things in the computing which are still difficult to define. An experienced programmer is able to recognize whatever he sees over the screen. The definition is provided in the most adequate manner by the Creech. The operating system can be defined as the part of the system which tries to allocate and coordinate with the resources of the system so that it is able to achieve the optimum performance with that particular system.
The resources have different types of the processors, operating system facilities, time in memory and the peripheral input output devices. This definition is appreciated as compared with the other when we realise the extent of the spectrum for the system which is it is able to cover. For example, the operating system which has less than 5000 instructions but still it took to man for the multiple years to develop it. The operating system of the IBM was developed by writing several billion lines of the code and it was performed by the people with less effort for the development. In this report we will discuss about the reliability and performance of the operating system as these are the major concerns and requirement when we are working over the computer.
SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY
The system performance can be defined as the measurement for the rate at which the system is able to perform task with usefulness. The system reliability is also regarded as the measurement for the trustworthiness for over the result which is produced by the system. There are different characterizations performed for the performance reliability of the computer system which can be used to compare 2 different operating system whether their functional capabilities are identical or near the identical.
He went to of the computing system have different functional capabilities then it becomes difficult for the test to find the means of categorising features and the reliability to check its performance hello and it will also provide meaningful comparison between the 2 system. In the similar manner that 2 different installations way have different opinions when they are depending over the different aspects of the reliability and performance of the system. It becomes surprising that there are no standards for accepting the measurement for reliability and performance of the system. The user is not able to realize about how unreliable the software and the hardware of the system is delivered by the manufacturer to the user.
The reliability and performance are those criteria which are very important for the user and it also involves the incurrence for the cost of the production there are many types of the operating systems which have been installed in pretty used to make an effort for quantifying the relationship which can hold between the performance of the system and it's caused. Performance is directly proportional with the square of the cost and it is the most commonly known example. An experienced programmer is able to recognize whatever he sees over the screen. The definition...
