SUV values for clinical use are sometimes computed by either taking the mean or maximum SUV value within a region of interest. These approaches may be subject to noise in the images. A better way may be to use a statistical test based on all values within the region. A patient undergoing chemotherapy has had PET images acquired before and after treatment. SUV values for all voxels within a tumor region for the two images can be found in the files suv_pre_chemo.txt and suv_post_chemo.txt. Because the tumor may have changed size the two files may contain different numbers of SUV values and the values do not represent corresponding voxels. Doctors wish to know if the activity of the tumor has changed as a result of the treatment. First, use MATLAB to compute mean and maximum SUV values for before and after chemotherapy to answer this question. Next, perform an appropriate statistical hypothesis test to answer the same question with 95% confidence.
