Suppose you conducted a study to test the hypothesis that social pressure affects memory accuracy. You set up a study in which all of the participants view three different videos of a person robbing a convenience store (order of the videos is counterbalanced across participants). After one crime video, participants watch other participants discussing the crime. After another crime video, the participants read a summary of the crime written by another participant. In reality, these other participants are part of the experiment, and some of the details of the crime that are discussed or written are inaccurate. The actual participants are told that they should consider other people’s perspectives on the crime because it is difficult for any one person to accurately remember all the details. After the third crime video, the participants do not view the discussion or read a summary of the crime (i.e., the control condition) but are also told that it is difficult for any one person to accurately remember all the details of the crime. Thirty minutes after viewing the crime videos, all participants are given a recognition memory test about details of the crimes. For this study, answer the following questions:

a. What is the correct statistical test that should be used to analyze the data?

b. What is the null hypothesis that will be tested?

c. Suppose that 10 participants participated in the study. For the recognition accuracy data provided below, use SPSS to conduct the correct statistical test to analyze these data:

·         Video Discussion Watched: 67, 80, 69, 72, 75, 79, 66, 71, 69, 79

·         Video Summary Read: 80, 75, 65, 77, 60, 69, 73, 79, 71, 80

·         No Video Discussion/Summary Control: 78, 65, 79, 84, 88, 79, 89, 90, 85, 87

d. From the SPSS output you obtained, what can be concluded about the null hypothesis you stated?

e. Why should the researchers consider whether the order of the video conditions had an effect on recognition accuracy in this study?
