Suppose you are interested in the effectiveness of a particular teaching method on algebra test scores. You select two algebra classes in which average test scores and the distributions of test scores have been about the same across several tests. You implement the new teaching method in one of these classes and keep the old method in the other class (the control group). You then look at scores for the next two tests to see whether the teaching method leads to increases in scores relative to the control group. This is a quasi-experimental design. What characteristic (s) docs it share with a true experimental design? What characteristic(s) keep it from being experimental? What challenges would you face in interpreting the results?
