The topic of ethics is explained further and summarized as it may apply to private investigators in the respective states.A well- known “investigator to the stars,” Anthony Pellicano earned a federal prison sentence for possession of illegal hand grenades. What could he have been thinking? He will likely earn additional prison time for wire tapping charges.Before the computer age, in the mid 1980s there was a ring of investigators and Social Security employees who were in the business of selling SS information for a fairly large. As it happened, some 20 25 investigators and workers were arrested from New York to Florida, Arizona, California and places between all within minutes of each other. There were many convictions, investigators lost their licenses and SS workers lost their jobs and pensions.Each knew that what they were doing was illegal, yet somehow each was above the law. The sense of right and wrong was akewed for each of them. We can only wonder if after all was said and done, if it was worth it to them.The term “mala in se” refer to acts that are by the very nature of the act; stealing for example. Failing to register you vehicle with the state would be mala in prohibits; there is nothing evil in not doing it, yet it is bad because the law requires it. Is it unethical? What if the reason for not registering a vehicle, is because the owner does not have insurance?
Private Instigation teamwork 9 We have a lot to do in week 9. The discussion question comes from reading Chapter 8, “Law and Ethics” pages 213-242, the article on Anthony Pellicano and watching the video. The teamwork assignment will cover the remainder of the fake PI business the teams came up with. This teamwork assignment is worth a lot of points so make sure you all participate. As far as how you are all doing: Only a little over half the class actually did both assignments this week and many did only one. We have not stopped working in this class. Introduction: For Phase III of the final project, your team will complete the final document that explains your imaginary PI business. This document should be a tool to sell your business to potential clients. The items listed below should be attended to in your project. Each team member should concentrate on developing a special skill set in his or her fictional resume. For example, one team member can be the computer forensic expert; one can be the interview and interrogation expert; and can be the workplace violence and threat management expert. Develop a list of the necessary infrastructure and tools needed for a successful private investigation firm, such as surveillance tools and vehicles, computers, video/audio recording equipment. The team should also develop a written mission statement that details a code of conduct based on values and ethics learned in this course.
