Introduction
The National Regulations Act 77 states that the family day care approved provider must ensure and execute that there is adequate health and hygiene practices followed. They must also ensure that there are safe practices for handling, preparing and storage of foods brought for preparing the children meals in the family day care school. Similarly it is the duty of the nominated supervisor of the day care service and the approved educator to ask the cook to wear gloves, wash hands and cover their head, nose and mouth while preparing the foods for the children (NHMRC - Food Safety, 2012).
The National Regulations Act 88 states that if there is any infectious disease observed to have occurred at the education and day care service then the approved provider of the family day care must take necessary steps to prevent the spread of the infectious disease across the family day care. The infectious diseases mostly come from the child rubbing hands on the floors, germs on the toys and foods. They can be easily prevented by washing the child’s hands with antibacterial soap before eating, covering their face with handkerchief while sneezing or coughing or sneeze in their elbow (NHMRC – Main ways to prevent infection, 2012). They must inform the child’s parents or the emergency contact to notify of such occurrence immediately. Further if such infectious diseases occurs in the family day care center, the same must be informed to all the parents by the approved provider in order to ensure that the children are not sent at the facility as there is always the risk of been getting affected to such infectious diseases (NSW Legislation, 2020).
As per the National Regulations Act 87 which is with respect to incidents, injury, trauma and illness the supervisors, providers, educators and volunteers who works for family day care facilities needs to provide with immediate first aid and medical attention or call an ambulance if the child is injured or is unwell. The educators also must inform the child’s parents or emergency contact within 24 hours from the happening of such incidence. Finally if there is death of a child while being in the day care it should be recorded by the educator as serious incident under Regulation 12 (ACECQA – National regulations, 2020).
