Introduction
The organizational culture specifies the set of values, beliefs, principles as well as the way of interacting within an organization. Organizational culture defines and creates a unique environment to work in. It specifies what should be the behavior of the employees within a work environment and how they should interact in the work environment with each other. The company chosen here is Walmart, which is an American multinational retail corporation that is known for operating a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores from the United States. As every organization has its own set of organizational culture and values Walmart also has its own culture and values.
Overview of Current Organizational Culture
Importance of Organizational Culture
Organizational culture is considered as uttermost importance considering its presence in the context of the organization.
Identity- the culture of an organization defines its identity. The identity of the company describes the way through which a company conducts its business both internally and externally. The value possesses by the company as well as its culture are simultaneous to each other as the value of the company is a part of its identity. The organizational culture is as much as important for the company as a personality is for an individual. The mission and vision statement of the company preferably specifies the reason behind the existence of the company and the context in which the company believes (Farell, 2018).
People-organizational culture is considered important in the organization as the positive organizational culture practiced in an organization helps them in retaining their best talent. The organizational culture of the company is the basic driver in attracting talented staff and retaining them as well. A toxic organizational culture could lead to huge employee turnover.
Processes- organizational culture is considered important as it can directly impact the company process as well as its productivity. The organizational culture is perceived right through the work carried on by the organization and the jobs performed by its employees. Organizational culture is important in the organization for a smooth run of processes.
Need to Manage Organizational Culture
It is important to manage the organizational culture within an organization so that positive work culture and values could be established. If the organizational culture within a company would not be managed it would lead to the initiation of several conflicts as well as issues.
Current Organizational Culture of Walmart
The current Organizational Culture of Walmart specifies the values that are followed by the company and the culture adopted by it. The company culture focuses on four main components. These components are also considered as the belief of Walmart it specifies service to customers, strives for excellence, respect for the individual, and action with integrity. As the company culture specifies the company prioritised the customers in its operations. It also believes in acknowledging the contribution of the employees in the process. Along with it, the company culture specifies striving for excellence and promoting virtues of honesty, fairness as well as impartiality (Alimudin, Septian, Sasono & Wulandari, 2017).
Action Plan
Though Walmart has its specified organizational culture still there are certain things that the company needs to improve in order to gain much better efficiency and work culture. It is well known that it is the prime responsibility of a leader to improve the organizational culture of an organization as he is the specified person who needs to look after the aspects and the activities that would enhance the organizational performance as well as the culture. In this paper, some actionable and detailed suggestions are provided following which the organizational leaders can improve the organizational culture of Walmart. Some of the prime suggestions include-
Model Behaviour- One of the prominent ways through which the leaders can improve the organizational culture of Walmart is by leading by example. As the team and the employees working in the organization look upon their leaders as their inspiration and want to follow their footsteps preferably. The team looks upon the leader to take the lead and display and communicate their expectations, especially during the tough times. A leader can never influence their team and employees to change their habits until and unless the leaders are not willing to do these themselves (Aranki, Suifan, & Sweis, 2019).
It simply specifies that if the leaders want to establish a culture where the employees follow the values, ethics as well as aspects of the organization it is very important that they should also follow the same habits and same aspects. Leaders can improve the organizational culture of Walmart by influencing the employees to follow the path that would represent the values as well as the expectations of the company so that the expectations of both the organization as well as the employees would be fulfilled in the meanwhile.
As in the organization, several actions need to be taken in different contexts and these actions are specified with the viewpoint and approval of the leaders. The employees potentially observe what actions the leaders take in distinct contexts and try to imitate their behavior further. As it is very often...
