From the early 1990s the NYPD has used a strategy for crime prevention where the officers when they have a reasonable suspicion they can stop and interrogate an individual and even frisk them; patting down the clothes of that person. However due to the liberal opposition this strategy has been called into question and the federal district judge declared the use of the strategy by NYPD is unconstitutional as she ordered a number of remedies to counter it. There are many post this verdict and also many who hailed Shira A. Scheindlin, the district judge, whose dedication towards the citizens in order to protect their human rights was not overlooked.
Although it has been three weeks since the decision was made, there needs to be proper evidence before judging how Judge Scheindlin has imposed her vision and with what consequences. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has stated that he would make an appeal as he thinks that the judge was biased against the city in the case of Floyd vs New York City and a different set of juries would help the city to ensure the confidence of the public in the process.
Although, in the decision made by Judge Scheindlin she did not take down the strategy of "Stop question and frisk" strategy but just ruled against the strategy used at that moment and how it was applied. All...
