Introduction
Discounts are offered in most of their best supermarkets, but as shoppers reach this typical treatment, they should probably think about the fact that farmers, not supermarkets, pay generous discounts. Farmers may have no profit at all, no pricing, little or no idea, and how much he will get when farmers pick and ship products (Renton, 2011). Or the package will be paid by the farm, but it will be done by a company selected by the supermarket, which costs twice as much as the individual packaging. Despite the endless price wars in supermarkets, it is mainly achieved by allowing suppliers to lower prices. Despite the high cost, most agricultural sectors, from eggs to fruits, vegetables and pork, have seen farm prices fall in the past year. The supermarket has returned the risk to us: they charge an increasing mark-up, forcing us to participate in the promotion, and a Welsh vegetable and dairy farmer tells the observer. Farmers bear all the risks, pay all the fees, and there is hardly anything higher than the production price (Renton, 2011).
Problem statement
Woolworths and Coles are two of the most famous brands in the Australian retail industry. They are fierce competitors and are usually addicted to price wars. It plays a negative role in aggressive pricing strategy and large discount market monopoly and keeping customer stock stable. However, this deeper wage war has severely harmed local farmers and producers. This strategy is not very sustainable for them because the farmers find themselves in dangerous condition and the costs they generate do not fall, but because of the fierce price war, they reluctantly forced them to sell at a lower cost is done (Gottschalk & Leistner, 2012). For example, in Australia, various workers, producers and consumer-led campaigns are improving about a range of food issues, including health and animal welfare and food sovereignty (Lewis, & Huber, 2015).
As we all know, different industries are mutually dependent and lack adequate milk and vegetables. Fruit production will have a negative impact on the food processing industry and ultimately domino effect will be on all other subsidiary industries. Therefore, the sustainability of the farmers is not only a serious problem for the farmers, but the entire economy (Gunarathne, 2015). Although several researches have been done on different aspect of the sustainability of famer, there is almost no research which can show investing on the sustainability of famer at stake: Deep Discount Wars Woolworths Vs Coles. Research Questions
1. What are the possible solutions to how farmers and supermarket giants can maintain a healthy balance?
2. How much damage does Coles and Woolworths have to farmers?
3. How to bridge the growing gap between the two, what new rules and regulations should be adopted?
Research Aim and Objectives
The purpose of the study was to provide an in-depth assessment and analysis of the problems faced by Australian farmers due to the existing duopoly of the supermarkets Woolworths as well as Coles and how it affects the sustainability of the local farmers along with producers.
Justification of the Project
On the basis of collected information, Queensland farmers are said to be less interested in maintaining commercial operations because they do not see any significant monetary and economic benefits. Often, these farmers are forced to sell milk for less than $ 1, a lower price which many small businesses have to withdraw from the industry. It should be noted that this paradigm shift, which changes the economic preferences of farmers and producers, will have a great impact on other sectors of the economy. In this case, here are the advantages of preparing this research proposal:
