Students will submit a search strategy for their final paper, outlining their research of a particular social policy. Please note that the more thought you put into your search strategy, the more relevant your search results will be (and the more I am able to provide constructive feedback to you)! The search strategy does not need to be in essay format (point form is fine!),except for the annotated bibliography. Your search strategymustinclude the following information:

  1. Statement about your chosen socialpolicy(i.e., what social policy will you research).

    • Try to be as specific as possible in terms of your policy. For example, if you are interested in researching poverty, please tell me whatspecificpolicy (or policies) you are researching – do not simply say that you are “researching poverty”. Instead, tell me what specific policies related to poverty you will research.(2 marks)

  2. Keywords (at least five) (3 marks)

  3. Search Strings (at least two) (e.g., child abuseANDsocial policy; child abuseORchild maltreatment) (2 marks)

  4. Search tools (at least two) (i.e., journal database, website, etc.) (2 marks)

    • You must use oneacademicsearch tool (e.g., journal database, such as One Stop Search, Ebsco Host, ebrary, Web of Science, Social Work Abstracts, etc.)

    • You may include government or organizational websites, Statistics Canada, or other internet sites. Wikipediaand The Canadian Encyclopedia arenotacceptable search tools or sources. Please provideboththe name of the websiteandthe URL for all the sites you access. You may use Google Scholar but it is not an academic database!

  5. Evidenceof your search results, which includes an example of your keywords, search strings, and search tools (I do not require a scan of all of your searches –oneis sufficient).I suggest that you print out your search results and then scan them and attach to your assignment as an appendix. If you do not include a print-out, you will lose the marks assigned for keywords, search strings, and search tools.

  6. Annotatedbibliography of at least three peer reviewed journal articles. The articles must be no more than six (6) years old with each annotation between 100 and 300 words. If you do not know what an annotated bibliography is or how to find a peer-reviewed journal article, please contact me or the social work librarian for assistance. Your annotations should include the following information: 1) a brief summary of the source; 2) the source's strengths and weaknesses; 3) its conclusions; 4) why it is relevant to your chosen social policy

    • Must be insentence format

    • You must use APA (7th Ed.) as the referencing format (see Assignments Folder in UM Learn for details)(6 marks)

  7. Yourdetailedplans for additional research on this topic.(5 marks)

It is a very sorry situation that there are various sorts of abuse that are submitted particularly on a kids like Child Labor, Trafficking, Sexual Abuse and Mistreatment. Search strategy is a well organised and structured of important keywords that can help to required information and knowledge from the database. Essentially, I have focused in blending the search strategy with the fundamental concepts in the research of social polices such that it can retrieve accurate results. For instance, my research is on social protections that primarily includes ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) which deals with managing the health issues as well as malnutrition that is faced by children especially below the age of five and six years. This policy is widely implemented in one of the fastest growing emerging economies like India, Brazil etc however the search is more centred around Canada.
