Students are to submit a course project at the end of the semester. Projects can be done in individually, or in groups of 2 or 3 students. There are two parts to the course project: (1) a financial statement analysis, including (a) write-up (just summarize what your model shows)and (b) excel spreadsheet model, based on a publicly traded company, including 5 years of historic data (if available); and (2) screenshots in TD Ameritrade Thinkorswim showing summary data on a publicly traded company stock. The project will include a written report in MS Word based on your MS Excel model. The Model will include separate worksheets for (1) revenues, (2) income statement (as stated, followed by common size, followed by indexed), (3) balance sheet (as stated, followed by common size, followed by indexed), (4) cash flow statement, (5) ratio analysis, and (6) peer firm ratio analysis. In the Excel model, students will be required to graph total revenues and then use CAGR to estimate total revenues three years into the future. From TD Ameritrade Thinkorswim, students will be required to generate a report including screenshots of key data (use your judgement based on the powerpointbelow as to what constitutes "key data")on a publicly traded company stock of your choice. Additional information on TD AmeritradeThinkorswim is attached.
To obtain a free TD AmeritradeThinkorswimPapermoneyaccount, go tohttps://www.thinkorswim.com/t/pm-registration.htmlthen select "register here for papermoney(R)", then select "No" (if you don't have a TD Ameritradeaccount), enter the required information, and then use the attached Powerpointon the ThinkorswimEngine to learn this platform.
To obtain financial data for the financial statement analysis of the publicly traded company of your choice, use a browser other than Chrome, go to the University of Arkansas libraries website to search for databases by subject (https://libraries.uark.edu/eresources/subjects.asp) then select Finance, then select Financial and Market Data, then select S&P NetAdvantage, login if required (uarkname and password), and search for your company of interest, then download financial statements, etc.
See attached sample model (with sample headings for the write-up - note your write-up will probably be different in organization from mine) and course project instructions, How to Thinkorswim manual, etc., for additional information and a sample model of what the course project will entail.
