Introduction
The multiculturalism and the diversity in the workplace have took the Australia’s employment opportunities to a new height. With the assimilation of the multiculturalism and diversity in the workplace the work environment is seen to be much healthy and the productivity increased. In the Australian workplace multiculturalism and diversity is considered very successful seeking its positive impact on the work environment as well as the productivity. Though there are some historical factors that hinders the success of multiculturalism and diversity in the workplace today, it is impacting the assimilation up to a greater extent.
Historical Factors
One of the most prominent historical factors that is hindering the success of the multiculturalism and diversity in the workplace is the history associated with the aboriginal and the Torres islander people. The Australian workplace is accumulating the people from diverse cultures and origins and provide them the opportunity to get employment and work in the Australian organization’s but the most disturbing fact here is though they are giving opportunity to the people from different culture as well as tge immigrants but they are not providing ample opportunities to the aboriginal and the Torres islander people who are the citizens of Australia (Anglim, Sojo, Ashford, Newman & Marty, 2019).
The aboriginal and the Torres Strait islander people were deprived of the basic rights of the employment in earlier times also and in the present time as well they are deprived of their certain rights. The unfairness towards the aboriginal and the strait islander people is a blot that hinders the success of multiculturalism and diversity practiced in the workplace today. As the multiculturalism and diversity advocates that the people should be given equal opportunity irrespective of their culture or the origins they belong to but in this case partiality is being observed on some of the aspects (Williams, 2017).
Stereotyping is considered among one of the prominent factors that is prevalent from a longer period and giving a tough call to the success of multiculturalism and the diversity in the Australian workplace. Considering the issue that is channelized from the historical times the Australian workplace policies though establishes and advocates the accumulation of cultures and diversity in the workplace but still there are several sections and sub groups are present that are stereotyped whether it is the aboriginal group or some other group and as a matter of fact the diversity which is considered as the inclusion of people belonging to every aspect of the society did not stick on its true meaning (Rivera, 2017).
