Background
Generally role-playing tends to allow an individual for identifying their own feelings surrounding a situation while at the same time learning how other may feel at the same time. On the other hand, role-play can be also defined as a speaking activity when someone puts themselves into somebody else’s shoe, or even when an individual stay in their shoes but put them
selves in an imaginary situation. In this essay I will be highlighting a role play for which I have selected to be a counsellor for this role play in terms of facilitating transformative change in my client’s life that is Pamela. Furthermore, I will be making reference to Egan’s framework and also paying close attention to the stages in terms of Egan’s framework. The article will then, at that point go further to clarify the significant components that should be viewed as when assisting clients with laying out objectives and afterward ultimately as a counsellor the limitations and strengths that is observed along with it the struggle that i had during this role play.
Discussion
1. Describing and explaining how this role play followed the Egan’s framework and also achieved the person-centred approach
It can be said that this particular model/framework used in the situations of the coaching or counselling where one of the most important objective is achieving lasting change as well as also empowering individuals for managing their own problems more effectively as well as developing the unused opportunities completely. It is needless to say that as much as an educator helps the students, this is specifically one of the most useful frameworks (Trower et all., 2015). This model also consists of three main stages such as:
· The exploration stage: It is mainly concerned with observing what is going on
· Challenging: what does an individual want instead?
· How an individual might achieve something that they want?
Throwing light on the above-mentioned discussion it can be said that Egan’s model is a framework in which the counselling procedure can take place has one of the most significant effect in the way by which counsellors tends to work by identifying various stages.
Stage 1- exploration: This is the first stage in the model as mentioned earlier that I followed during the role play being a counsellor. In this stage I maintained the eye-contact with Pamela, and showed I value what is said by her as she is losing her confidence facing some of the lows in her life both personally and professionally. I had proper eye-contact with her and whenever they felt uncomfortable as a counsellor broke eye contact by looking down or away as well as then again maintaining eye contact or looking down. Furthermore, I have also used selective attending that is used when counsellor also wants to focused to a component in terms of what a client is saying as well as if they are showcasing any discomfort, distress, anger, etc. It is considered to be quite vital that a counsellor is conscious about their body language and that was followed by me at that time concerning the signals that it was giving to the clients. On the other hand, another element from the stage such as question for example- I have asked the client about the difficulties faced by her and how she felt about it. She stated that after being an overachiever also she is facing problems at work and also she feels jealous whenever she observes her friends have settled down and she is not (Jacobs, 2017).
Stage 2- challenging: My role play then followed this step of Egan’s framework that was involving to challenge the existing views that is one problem at a time. Pamela was encouraged to think whether there was another way in terms of looking at the issue. For example, my client was facing the over-confidence issue as she said that after investing long working hours and sacrificing a lot in the workplace and being a perfectionist also she is feeling the existential...
