Students are required to submit a message to the Unit Chair via CloudDeakin and a document explaining how the Unit Chair can verify that the message was indeed created and sent by the student.

Students should submit at least two files:

  • The message: This should be a file, which contains your encrypted message. The extension of the file is up to you. It just needs to be consistent with the openssl commands.

  • The document: This should be a .pdf file of no more than two pages split in four sections:

oSection1: YournameandstudentIDoSection 2: List the openssl commands you used to encrypt the fileoSection 3: List the openssl commands (including options and parameters) that the marker will execute in openssl in order to decrypt the message. Note that, those commands will be executed within the folder where the encrypted message is located. All submitted files will be place within the same folder.

oSection 4: Explain how to verify authenticity and integrity of the message.•Key material (Optional): any cryptographic key necessary for encryption or decryption.

Important technical information:

- Encryption and decryption will be done with the command line tool openssl.

The marker is only required to execute openssl commands. You cannot ask the marker to, for example, unzip or open a file. Each instruction should be in the form of an openssl instruction to be executed within the folder where the submitted files are downloaded. The current stable version of openssl is 1.1.1

The public key of the Unit Chair can be found as an attachment in the submission folder. The name of the file is: public-key-Rolando-Unit-Chair.pemThe name of the file storing the secret key of the Unit chair is: private-key-Rolando-Unit- Chair.pem

Your credentials in CloudDeakin cannot be used as a proof of authentication. We do trust, however, in your public key if you add it to your submission.
