By the virtue of this assignment, I would like to draw attention to a LinkedIn article about gender stereotyping that I found was very insightful and intriguing. Moreover, the picture leveraged by the author was quite profound. The article "It's Deep –rooted!" by Seeta Lakshmi P refers to the omnipresent problem of gender stereotypes and their role in people's lives from childhood through growing up and into the workplace or organizational life (Lakshmi, Breaking Gender Stereotypes). This article appeals to feminist theory and indicates the importance of feminism in terms of challenging and disturbing these stereotypes.
Since the initial days at school and through my personal life, I have viewed feminism as a critical lens for understanding gendered roles and expectations in society. The media piece repeats the way gender roles are constructed socially and imposed, starting from the childhood of individuals who shape their beliefs and behaviours. This agrees with the feminist perspectives that assert the need to deconstruct these roles to accomplish gender equality (Fausto-Sterling, pp 20).
