Question 1 (10 marks)
a. With suitable examples, discuss the importance of scale of measurements in statistics.
    (2 marks)
ANSWER a): ** Answer box will enlarge as you type
There are 4 common scales of measurement in statistics- nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio. Each of these have their own importance.
1. Nominal- It is used to categorise into different groups. For example: Genders- Male or Female
2. Ordinal- It is used to show ranks of different data. For example: Ranking of football teams- first, second, third etc.
3. Interval Scale- It is important as it gives us info about the difference between different data points, but it does not have zero. For example- Temperature measurement in Celsius or Fahrenheit scale
4. Ratio Scale- It has a feature of having zero and is used to measure differences between data
For example- Weight in Kg, Height in cm etc.

    1600
    1800
    2500

i. Calculate the mean, median, first quartile and third quartile.                        (2 marks)
ANSWER b (i): ** Answer box will enlarge as you type
(1200<1500<1600<1800<2500<3200<3200<4500<5000<6000)
ii. Calculate the variance and standard deviation, interquartile range and coefficient of variation.                                                                                        (2 marks)
ANSWER b (ii):
iii. What conclusion can you reach about advertising expenditure at this store.    (4 marks)
ANSWER b (iii):
We can say the following about the expenditure of the store-
Average expenditure per month is 3050$ (Mean)
The middle value of monthly expenditures is 2850$ (Median)
25% of the times the monthly expenditure was below 1600$ (1st Quartile)
75% of the times the monthly expenditure was below 4500$ (3rd Quartile)
The middle half of the monthly expenditures is 2900$ (IQR)
Variance and Standard deviation tells us how spread out the data is from the average of 3050$.
CV tells us about the dispersion of monthly expenditures from the mean value. It is 51.26% or 0.5126.
