The executive summary is expected to contain summary statements key/important elements of the report such as of the focus of the report, findings, discussion, conclusion and in some cases recommendations.Table of contents The table of contents is used to show the reader where parts of the report can be found. It is up to you to decide on the level of detail in the table of contents.2Introduction The introduction provides the purpose and scope of the report. In this case the subheadings of Background, Aim and Scope may be used.Discussion The body/discussion includes the findings, analysis, discussion in which the material is analysed and interpreted. This is the core of the report. Use appropriate headings. Conclusion The important conclusions justifiable reached as a result of the work should be stated in this section. Key recommendations should be included in the conclusion.References Your report must include in-text referencing and a correctly cited list of references ordered alphabetically by surname of first author, in accordance with the APA style of referencing. See the link under Assessment Guidance. Note that references are usually not sited in the executive summary, introduction and conclusion. These are used in the main body of the text.Appendices Here you include material that is important to the report, but to comprehensive to include in the body/discussion of the report.Word count The word count includes the body of the report, from introduction to the conclusion. Exclude the executive summary, table of contents, references and appendices from the word count. Regarding the importance of the words count. Check out the marking rubric and notice the weight of the following criteria.• 5% of the marking weight is on:' Clarity of expression, grammar and spelling. Appropriate presentation format within (±10%) of the word limit: 1000 words' • In comparison, notice that the 60% of marking weight is on: Thorough understanding of relevant quality management concepts, principles, theories, tools and models in regards to the assessment tasks. You should clearly make focus on making sure that you address the 60% criteria when compared to the word count 5%.3About observing, questioning and interviewing employees If you engage staff of organisations in questions you need to be aware of some simple guidelines. For example, regarding observing, questioning and interviewing people at your organisation of choice you need to get formal agreement. This may be difficult to get a formal agreement if you leave it too long. It usually requires some time to setup an interview. it is not compulsory to complete an interview. On the other hand, you can undertake observation without permission. Observation doesn’t have to be formally arranged for you to get inspiration for the assessment. Buy a cup of coffee, have a chat with the staff. How was the service? What do you observe? What causes problems and what happens when things do not go as planned? What do they do to avoid problems? What about your own personal experience? If you have personal experience in an industry or business, you are welcome to leverage that too. Just list that it is your personal experience in the report. To keep the company anonymous in your report I suggest you create a short general profile of the company. It can be in the appendix if the body if it doesn’t fit into the report’s 1000 words. Don’t over-complicate it. It is only a 1000-word assessment.About referencing personal experience in the report You do not need to reference your own experience in the business/organisation unless you are referring to public publications. Just mention that it is the ‘author’s experience’ as you suggest. Remember that reports are to be written in ‘third person’, even though you may be writing about your own experiences at your business or workplace.About the number of references in the report The number of assessment 2 references is listed in the marking rubric and the assessment criteria as: A minimum of four (4) academic journals must be used.About the scope of the problem/challenge in the report Regarding the scope of the problem/challenge that you address in the report. It needs to have ‘meat’, but does not have to be about the whole ‘creature’ or business. Assessment 2 requires that you identify a problem within the business (why) where you think two selected quality management tools and techniques can help bring about a solution and improve quality (what). You must also be able to implement the solution (how). Think about the complexity/scope of the problem you are trying to address. You will have to fit the above into a 1000-word report while displaying your knowledge of and ability to apply quality management tools and techniques so it creates value to the owner (and the marker).4About implementation of your suggestion (how) Recall, this is about the solution in relation to the tools that you are trying to implement and how you are getting the employees to use them. For example, if you are implementing Pareto charts and Cause and Effect Diagrams to identify the common customer complaints and the possible causes as to why these are occurring. The How section is just about how to implement these tools. It isn't about looking at the results of these tools and then coming up with a solution. About confidential business/organisational information in the report If you are writing about a business you are working for or granted access to, and confidentiality is an issue, please ensure you do not convey confidential information in the report. For example by avoiding mentioning the business by name. You can give your business/firm any made up name you want, for example: ‘Great restaurant and accommodation’.About the use of graphs and tables in the report You can create a tables and illustrations as you need to. Using tables and graphs are good ways to communicate the use and application of quality tools. Good illustrations, tables and graphs can sometimes be more effective than 1000 words. Note that in some cases it is good to use the appendix for additional illustrations or tables that do not add to the flow of the report, but provides good background information or further details.Just remember to label them correctly and provide a source where appropriate. Do not forget to include a list in the table of contents. What tools and techniques to select from? For MGMT19105 Quality Management Assessment 2 you can select quality management tools or techniques described in the unit textbook chapter discussed in week class 5 lecture. Following is a table to from your textbook that you may use for reference-
