Written questions Students must correctly answer all questions. 2. Internal control procedures review Students must review a company’s internal control procedures. 3. Internal control procedures project Students must develop, implement and monitor internal control procedures. 4. Internal control procedures evaluation project Students must evaluate internal controls against key performance indicators, develop recommendations for variations and implement recommendations. It is important that you reference the sources of your information. For instance, if you have found an internal control procedure that seems to be appropriate to the case study, and has worked for another company, cite the company and the effect that the procedure has had on its bottom line, as well as how it is relevant to the case study. 5. Written answer question guidance
The following written questions use a range of “instructional words” such as “identify” or “explain”, which tell you how you should answer the question. Use the definitions below to assist you to provide the type of response expected.
Note that the following guidance is the minimum level of response required.
Analyse – when a question asks you to analyse something, you should do so in in detail, and identify important points and key features. Generally, you are expected to write a response one or two paragraphs long.
Compare – when a question asks you to compare something, you will need to show how two or more things are similar, ensuring that you also indicate the relevance of the consequences. Generally, you are expected to write a response one or two paragraphs long.
Contrast – when a question asks you to contrast something, you will need to show how two or more things are different, ensuring you indicate the relevance or the consequences. Generally, you are expected to write a response one or two paragraphs long.
Discuss – when a question asks you to discuss something, you are required to point out important issues or features, and express some form of critical judgement. Generally, you are expected to write a response one or two paragraphs long.

Assessment Task 1 Instructions
Provide answers to all of the questions below:
1. Describe how the Privacy Act 1988 applies to the handling of files and records.
It is dealing with the responsibilities of the company in order to maintain confidentiality and secrecy of the customer information.
2. Explain how the Privacy Act 1988 may affect the management of a company’s files.
The company’s personnel files can be assessed by the HR and the accounts staffs. Hence, the files and folders must be password protected so that information are not passed to the third parties.
3. Discuss at least two ethical responsibilities of an accountant when preparing financial statements
1. Keep the company information secret and track the hours and tasks perfectly
2. Information related to payroll, staff attrition must be kept secretly
4. Discuss the ethical implications of finding that a work colleague has been accessing some of your files that they should not have had access to.
The ethical implication is breaching of the workplace practice by my work colleague and security lapse due to manual error by me which let him to access my files unethically.
5. Explain the role of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) and the legislation that determines its authority and scope?
ASIC is independent body of Commonwealth and are a regulator of Australia’s financial, corporate, consumer and credit controller. It is governed by ASIC Act, 2001.
6. Identify the three pieces of legislation that ASIC is responsible for administering. Explain the purpose of each Act.
Corporation Act 2001 is a set of laws which deals with the business entities of Australia at federal and interstate level
National Consumer credit protection act 2009 which is professional standards of conduct and regulations of the finance industry
Insurance contracts act 1984 which regulates the legal agreement between the customers and the insurance company with strict obligations.
7. According to the Corporations Act 2001, what are company directors’ four main duties? Briefly explain each.
· Care and due diligence
· Good faith for the best interest of the company by resolution of conflicts
· Improper use of the position in order to gain added advantages
· Improper usage of information by the director to gain advantage detrimental to the company
8. Identify and explain three key features of A New Tax System (GST) Act 1999
· The GST act sets principles of how and from whom it is collected
· It lists the items which fall under the provision of GST
· It describes how GST is reported and how frequently be reported
9. Explain the effect that the Common Reporting Standard for the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information has on foreign tax residents in Australia, and on Australians earning money in other countries.
