  1. Review the essay prompt: Which ideas in the Constitution are most important for preserving freedom?




  2. Write a persuasive essay answering this question. Your essay should specify where in the Constitution these ideas are expressed and provide relevant background information.




  3. Be sure to cite evidence to support your position, and organize your essay into an introduction, body, and conclusion. REMEMBER for this essay you can cite from Module 6 textbook or the primary sources!

  1. Review the essay outline given to you here. You may use this outline to help you write your persuasive essay.






Introduction (at least 5 sentences)




  • Write an introduction statement. For example: The new Constitution was necessary for preserving freedom because…(add your reason).




  • Provide background information (hint use a part of the Module 6 Reading)




  • Restate the essay prompt with your opinion (Which ideas in the Constitution are most important for preserving freedom?)






Body Paragraph (at least 5 sentences- use ONE documents for evidence)




  • Review all sources using the close reading strategy. Use ONE of the sources to write your body paragraph to address the essay prompt.








  • Line One: Introduce the source (Use the background information. For example: The Constitution was important for preserving freedom because...)




  • Line Two: Pull textual evidence by using proper citations. For example:According to Federalist Papers No. 51 the authors state “In such a manner as that each may be a check on the other that the private interest of every individual may be sentinel over the public rights..."








  • Line Three: Explain the textual evidence in your own words - how does this piece of evidence relate to the essay prompt/ question? (For example: This proves that the Constitution was important for preserving freedom because it allows the government to have checks and balances. It is wise for the government to have checks and balances to not allow one branch of government from becoming too powerful from another. If the government became too powerful, they could take away power from the people.)






Step 3: Conclusion (at least 5 sentences)




  • Start with a conclusion phrase (Example In conclusion; Therefore; Finally)




  • Summarize the main point in relation to the essay prompt, in your opinion (Which ideas in the Constitution are most important for preserving freedom?)




  • Ending statement/ modern day relation- how does this affect America and YOU today
