statistical analysis class, I have the file and the numbers done, just need help making graphs and describing the data.
Statistical Analysis for Social Sciences (ECON 1080) Project II On the Desire2Learn website for our class there are two datasets under the project link. (1) Framingham is a subset of the data from the Framingham Heart Study. The Framingham Heart Study is a long term prospective study of the etiology of cardiovascular disease among a population of free living subjects in the community of Framingham, Massachusetts. The Framingham Heart Study was a landmark study in epidemiology in that it was the first prospective study of cardiovascular disease and identified the concept of risk factors and their joint effects. The study began in 1948 and 5,209 subjects were initially enrolled in the study. Participants have been examined biennially since the inception of the study and all subjects are continuously followed through regular surveillance for cardiovascular outcomes. Clinic examination data has included cardiovascular disease risk factors and markers of disease such as blood pressure, blood chemistry, lung function, smoking history, health behaviors, ECG tracings, Echocardiography, and medication use. Through regular surveillance of area hospitals, participant contact, and death certificates, the Framingham Heart Study reviews and adjudicates events for the occurrence of Angina Pectoris, Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, and Cerebrovascular disease. The data was collected as part of the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, a law designed to monitor minority access to the mortgage market. The initial results showed discriminatory mortgage denial rates. However, the original data collected limited variables (e.g. no credit history), leading to extensive debate about the strength of the evidence. To address this shortcoming, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston asked lenders to collect more data. The fuller data sets have been examined extensively as part of an effort to ensure equal access to the mortgage market. More information: http://www.depauw.edu/learn/stata/Workshop/Munnell.pdf For the second project (25 points possible), you will submit a brief report for the following: 1) Choose one of the data sets, or find a data set of your own for this project (5 points) 2) Choose any three variables from the data set, summarize and display the selected variables using statistical measures given in chapter12. (10 points) 3) Give a written description of interesting features of the data. (10 points.) Note: You are using a statistical software of your choice to make sense of a large data set. Through this process, you are turning data into information that can be used for decision-making; e.g. if the mortgage data set tells me that White applicants have higher rate of approval than black applicants we can make a case for further analysis. You can use mean, median, mode, standard deviation as summary measures and frequency distribution, stem plot, bar graph, box plots, and pie chart as graphical measure. Your written report will mimic the news article we may read describing data.
