Lenore is preoccupied with thoughts of her dead husband and does not want to do much other than thinking about him.    Case Study 5:Elise is a 35-year-old architect. She comes to you in great distress, feeling that she is unable to work, and generally unable to function. She says that she feels sluggish all the time, to the point of feeling completely exhausted. She says that she cries easily, and almost every day. She reports difficulty in falling asleep and staying sleeping for the past month and has lost 20 pounds in the last 2 months without trying. She says that things have been "really bad" for the last 2 months; she doesn't enjoy doing anything and thinks frequently of suicide. However, she also says that she has never been a very happy person. She says that things rarely go right for her, and she has given up on expecting good things to happen for her.

   Case Study 6:Amy, age 38, is a worrier and has been all her life. However, over the past year she's been restless, irritable and has had difficulty concentrating. She worries that she worries so much and isn't always sure what it is that she is worried about. Lately, she's been experiencing back/muscle tension and headaches, along with feeling hot suddenly. She can't let her husband or children leave the house without making them call her regularly to reassure her that they are ok. Her husband is growing weary of her fretting. Her children can't understand what all the fuss is about. Their impatience with her only makes her worry more.

   Case Study 7:Joanne, age 32, is starting to get seriously involved with a man after being single for a number of years. As the couple become more intimate though, Joanne starts to have flashbacks about an uncle who touched her sexually when she was only eight years old. She has experienced these flashbacks on and off again throughout her life due to various triggers. However, she is distressed to find out that within in past few months she has been shutting down feelings for her boyfriend and distancing herself from him. On top of that, she mentions that they have been fighting more because she feels irritable and overall been experiencing negative moods. Her boyfriend states that she's been forgetful lately as well, even with recent conversations they have.  He also notes that she startles easily and reports a general increase in anxiety. Joanne blames it on her difficulty sleeping and her reoccurring nightmares of her uncle. She is very angry that she has to deal with the feelings about the incidents with her uncle that happened so long ago. She says that she thought she had gotten beyond all that.
