State Mendel’s Law of Segregation and Law of Independent Assortment. Then, clearly explain for each law how the events of meiosis I account for the observations that led Mendel to formulate these laws. Your answer should use Mendel’s experimental work and your knowledge of the events of meiosis I to clearly and completely describe the laws.

Mendel’s Laws:
Law of Segregation:
This is also known as Mendel’s first law of inheritance where Mendel sta
tes that a parent with to copies of each gene can pass on either allele to form a gamete. These alleles can get combined with other alleles at random to form new zygotes. In this law of segregation during the reproductive cells or gametes formation the off springs receive one factor from each individual parent. Here it was understood that the genes in a living cell exist in more than one form or allele.
Role of Meiosis:
If we see the physical aspect of this segregation than it is the first divisional stage of meiosis where the homologous chromosomes which have different version of each gene gets segregated into the daughter nuclei. Here the behaviour of these homologous chromosomes results in the segregation of the alleles at each of the genetic locus to form different gametes during the reproduction process. Here in the stage of meiosis the gametes get formed which contains only one allele per gene and is haploid in nature. This is clearly mentioned by Mendel when he demonstrated the same...
