Create a "Family Tree" for your smartphone or wireless powered pad. Think about all of the "ancestors" that have gone into making this device what it is. The research part is to find out and correctly identify when and where important things happened... It should be fun, and you can get a little silly if you wish, but you should end up with a product that will allow you to clearly trace the development of one attribute of a portable, web-based appliance from the beginning, usually sometime in the 1800s, to your pocket or purse today. Each attribute of your phone will have a clear lineage, but remember, just like in our families, these lines cross and produce very important results, like when the wireless telegraph and the phonograph got together, and we ended up with voice and music on the radio!
The other challenge is to think about all of the things that our web enabled devices do as separate entities, and then consider how they interact today in ways that they could not have before!
