written assignment:
Analysing the Relationship Between the Media and a Health Topic: A Critique of Theory, Media
Representation and the Impact of Media on Health, Wellbeing and Social Care.
Your assignment must:
• Focus on one specific issue, e.g. mental illness, body image, healthy lifestyles, disability,
HIV infection.
• Provide an overview of the types of media in the UK in relation to health, wellbeing and
social care and your topic using appropriate academic sources and underpinned with
media theory and models of communication.
• Illustrate how health, wellbeing and social care issues are represented in the media, and
relate this to your topic.
• Discuss the impact of the media on health wellbeing and social care organisations and
individuals (both public perception and individual experience).
• Drawing from relevant research evidence and statistical information critique the impact of
media, discussing which media channels you would use to reach the target population of
your topic, influences on media (e.g. political influences and pressure groups), and the
impact and proactive use of social marketing and social media in communication strategies
