You can see the effect of changing the slope and the y-intercept of a line using the applet called How a Line Works. Use your mouse to move the slider on the right side of the scatterplot. As you move the slider, the slope of the line, shown as the vertical side of the green triangle (light gray in Figure 3.12), will change. Moving the slider on the left side of the applet causes the y-intercept, shown in red (blue in Figure 3.12), to change.
