Stage 1 of the Research Process -- Core Sentence Assignment

Read Part 4 in the textbook (Longer Business Messages), as we are now beginning to look at the research paper. After watching and summarizing the YT video on How to Find a Research Question (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu0aGFjLEEM&t=7s), please decide on the research question YOU want to pursue.

Step 1: Decide on the problem and then the audience. (Most of you probably know the problem but not the audience.)

My Step 1:

Problem:Over the last ten years, there has been a decrease in the number of students who register for post-secondary education.

Audience:The president, the vice-president, and heads of department at Douglas College along with my secondary audience: my classmates in CMNS 1115.

My Step 2:

Research question: Why are more and more millennials not pursuing post-secondary education?

My Step 3:

Purpose:To explain the reasons that more and more students are not pursuing post-secondary education to the dean and heads of department.

My Step 4:

Core sentence:This reportdescribesmillennials’ reasons for not choosing post-secondary education in terms ofthree major categories:personal reasons, social reasons, and financial reasons.

You’ll notice that the core sentence has these parts:

   2. A verb (describes, classifies, explains, analyses, etc.)
   
   
   3. The general topic (in my case my general topic is millenials’ reasons for not choosing post-secondary education)
   
   
   4. The words: In terms ofthree categories (personal, social, financial)
